the central bohemian spa town poděbrady is situated about 50 km on a highway north-eastern of prague in a typical meadow landscape of the river of labe (elbe). the first bohemian king george (jiří) was born in poděbrady and his statue is dominating the main square in front of the castle. during the beginning of the 20th century a lot of rich families in prague established their summer seats here and from this time you can see a lot of lovely villas along the spa park, mainly build in art nouveau.
